SOUTHERN WestcHEster AUDITIONS

september audition dates!

New Member Auditions:

Thursday, January 9, 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Larchmont Avenue Church

Audition Requirements:

  • Please complete the audition request form below. Your specific time will be emailed separately.

  • All students should prepare a short selection (approximately 16 bars or 30 seconds). Your selection will be sung a cappella (without piano accompaniment).

  • Students may sing a folk song, musical theater selection, or song from their school chorus. To show off the best range of the singer, we advise you to avoid pop tunes.

  • Students may be asked to vocalize (sing a few warm-ups), hold their part against another singer and older singers may be asked to sight-read a short musical passage. For our younger ensembles, we are primarily looking for an ability to match pitch, follow directions, and sing in their head voice.

Audition request form:

  • Auditions are held in Larchmont

  • You will receive a confirmation email within 1 week. If you do not receive an email, please check your spam folders and contact us.

  • Please arrive for your audition 15 minutes before your confirmed time

Membership FAQs

We have five ensembles grouped by age and ability that range from grades 1 - 12. Read more about them here.

All ensembles rehearse weekly on Thursday afternoons in Larchmont from September through May with a break over the winter holiday as follows:

  • Crescendo (Grades 1-2): 4:30 - 5:15pm

  • Cantus (Grades 3-5) : 4:30 - 6:00pm

  • Cantabile (Grades 6-8): 4:30 - 6:00pm

  • Chorale (Grades 9-12): 4:15 - 6:00pm

  • Cambiare (young men and male-identifying students, grades 6 and up) 4:30 – 6:00pm

Joining the WCChorus is a commitment similar to that of a sports team. We cover a lot of material at each rehearsal, and each week builds upon the material covered the previous week. For this reason, when a student has 3 absences for the semester, participation in the concert will be at the discretion of the conductor.

We have 2 major concerts each year in December and May. In addition, we are often invited to perform at community events or as guests at other concerts. Past performance locations have included a Harlem Globetrotters game, and outdoor festivals such as the Larchmont Arts Festival, Armonk Frosty Festival, Kensico Dam Winter Wonderland, and Carnegie Hall. Take a look at some of our local coverage on the news.

Tuition ranges from $350 to $500 per semester depending on the ensemble. It is a high priority that no student be turned away for financial reasons and we have awarded 100% of scholarship requests in our history.

We know that transportation can be a challenge and are committed to eliminating barriers to provide equal access for all interested students. If transportation is an issue for your family, please contact our office.

As of Fall 2024, we have students from 30+ schools in 15 school districts!

The Westchester Children’s Chorus is a non-religious organization and welcomes singers of any race, color, national or ethnic origin, religious affiliation, or gender identification.

If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Why choose wcchorus?

The Westchester Children's Chorus is one of the only non-profit, educational organizations staffed by NYS Certified Music Educators who serve our students in public and private schools, as their classroom music teachers, choral directors, and accompanists. Our staff are recognized experts in their fields and bring this expertise to WCChorus. In addition, WCChorus as an organization, is committed to collaboration and artistic growth for both students and staff. We program performances and workshops where our students and staff can work intergenerationally with peer and professional performing groups. Singers have opportunities to work with living composers and advanced musicians and orchestras. In addition, singers will experience having a peer mentor as they come up in the organization. Younger singers have someone to look up to and older singers have the opportunity to give back by working with our beginning ensembles.

We are the proud winners of the 2023 Arts Westchester Education Award

and a 2-year recipient of a New York State Committee for the Arts Grant!
