Job Title: Crescendo Conductor (Yorktown Heights)
Responsibilities:
Teaching Choral Music: Instruct students in vocal techniques, music theory, and performance skills appropriate for elementary school students.
Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive choral music curriculum that aligns with state standards and educational goals.
Rehearsals and Performances: Conduct regular Tuesday rehearsals from 4:15-5:30pm, to prepare students for performances, including concerts, recitals, and other WCChorus events.
Individual Instruction: Provide individualized instruction and guidance to students to help them develop their vocal abilities and musical understanding.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other WCChorus conductors, staff and administrators to implement new project ideas and/or performances. This is a co-conducting position, so must plan with your conducting partner.
Parent Communication: When asked by our Program Manager.
Classroom Management: Maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment that fosters creativity, comprehension and a love for music among students.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field (Masters Degree a plus).
Certification: Valid NYS teaching certification/license in Music/ Music Education for elementary grades.
Experience: Previous experience teaching choral music to elementary school students is preferred, specifically grades 1-3.
Skills: Strong musical skills including proficiency in vocal techniques, sight-reading, and conducting. Ability to work effectively with young children and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs. Piano Accompaniment skills are preferred for this position.
Passion: A genuine passion for music education, early childhood music and a commitment to fostering a lifelong appreciation for music among students.
Additional Details:
Work Hours: Regular Tuesday Rehearsals, beginning in September 2024-May 2025. Rehearsals will take place from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
Location: Yorktown Heights
Stipend: Annual Stipend to be determined based on experience.
Note: This position is a co-teaching/shared position. Candidates must be willing to collaborate with a co-teacher/conductor weekly. Crescendo rehearsals are 45 minutes. It is expected after Crescendo rehearsal concludes the conductor will assist with sectional work for the upper ensembles.

Social Media and Communications Intern
Communications and Social Media Intern develops and implements outreach and promotional campaigns to boost brand engagement and increase awareness of the Westchester Children’s Chorus, a small non-profit choral education organization with 2 locations in Westchester - Larchmont and Yorktown Heights.
This is an opportunity to learn from a Chief Marketing Officer-level professional and create a diverse portfolio of work to add to a resume.
Applicants should be a communications, marketing, or similar degree student at an accredited college or university.
Duties and responsibilities include:
Social Media
Assist with the design and execution of social media campaigns (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube)
Track social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas and campaigns for scalability
Perform social media marketing research
Create compelling graphics to share across social channels
Write social media captions that speak to the company’s target audience
Create and distribute content such as blogs, infographics, videos, and press releases on social media and traditional news outlets
Content Creation
Create weekly and monthly editorial calendars to promote the organization on various social media accounts and websites
Create and distribute content such as blogs, infographics, videos, and news/events on social media and news outlet websites
Photography/Video
Help create and edit short-form videos
Reels and stories for Meta platforms and shorts for YouTube
Take photos for social media and website
Assist with photo/video content shoots
Grants
Researches possible grant opportunities for the organization
Assists with the collection of materials for grant submissions
The position will start in September 2024 and requires 2-3 hours per week.
